Broadcast to the World Tour 05-06!

Hello all!!!!!

So I thought I would do a little follow up tour diary stuff on here. The site is new and we need to put some new info up. I think I will be posting my tour diary here as well as the other places I have been in the future. Mostly because it’s so easy now with all this cut and paste crap!! Boooya!!!! So , basically I’m gonna do a fly-by version of this album cycle up to now!!! Mmmmmkay?

Europe Tour Fall 05

Yeah!!!! We finished Broadcast and head right out on tour in Oct 2005. First stop, a 5 week tour of the UK and Europe. At this point we have been to Europe and the UK 5 times already and have never done a proper tour. It was amazing. It was cool to see so much of these places. We must have done 17 shows in the UK and the rest were in Europe!!! It was like we were rebuilding whatever we had there. I considered the tour a success because there were good amounts of you little fuckers there and it seemed like we all had a great time. It was good to be over there that long also because it forced you to bone up and get over your culture shock. Let’s face it, Europe is very far away from Los Angeles and very different. It helped that the shows were good and it also helped that we got along great with each other and, with our crew.

Wow, what would be more fun then touring with your friends in the western US for almost 4 weeks in a big fancy tourbus. The tour was amazing. Matty was really starting to get comfortable and we were starting to have more fun on tour than we had ever had. It was still so strange to all get along and not have any problems to worry about other than where to take a shit (cant poop on the bus) and where to find more alcohol!!! It was great playing big shows and playing with a whole bunch of dudes you liked a lot!!! We met our new favorite bus driver Jeremy from northern gold as well!!! We also took Jason Frees on a portion of the tour to play keyboards, piano, and sax! It was truly an honor for me to play with someone who is such a great friend and someone who is the most amazing player I have ever seen in my life. Not to mention, we got drunk and had a lot of fun. Jason also played quite a few different instruments on the record. We also had a super duper tourbus!!! Rock out!!! The shows rocked, The fans rocked, The other bands rocked!!! I also got to drink every night with some of my best friends in the music scene.

Matt Wong is a monster, Kelly Lemiux looks like one of those little pencil eraser covers with hair everywhere and just is an awesome guy. Darrin Pfeifer is one of my favorite drummers, Reiland Steed is also one of my favorite drummers. I got to watch these fuckers tear it up every night!!! Aaron Barret is a closet guitar GOD!!! I could keep going all these guys in all the bands were awesome!! If you have a chance go see ‘em play!!!

And now another amazing tour. I think we were home for 6 days after the US tour and hopped a flight to London Heathrow to start another adventure. Same thing, hanging out with our buddies doing lots of fun rock shows. For the UK portion we rode in Nicks van and got hotel rooms every night. It was great. We loved playing big shows with them over there. They are a huge band in the UK. And all the shows were packed and fun as hell. For the Europe portion we got a 2 story bus and were able to do a lot more sight seeing. What a way to see Europe!!! Got up fairly early and went to see as much as I could. So much history and beauty in most of Europe. At this point I was starting to get very comfortable over there. Was really starting to like Germany and the UK. The tour was great. Most of it is a blur of fancy German beer and sweaty, crazy rock shows. What a way to see Europe!!! YEAH!!!!!

Japan/ Punkspring 06 early April

Anytime I hear that I’m going to get to go to Japan I am stoked. It might be the coolest place that I have ever been. I think this trip made it number 13 for us to Japan. Hard to believe we had been here 13 times in our fairly short history. Well, This was a very big show for us. So many cool bands that we all love and get to share a huge stage with them is just a great feeling. This was also the first time that Matty was in Japan so we were excited about showing another part of the world our new stuff. The show were ridiculous. Tokyo had something like 18,000 people and Osaka had around 10,000 people. Big shows for us. Matty tore it up. He stayed on course and totally rocked the shit out of it. I have to say that maybe that show was the best zh ever played. We ended up staying there for 2 weeks because we had so much press and stuff to do. We were given gold records while we were there because it had sold gold very quickly. I left Japan that time feeling more satisfied and happy than I could ever remember feeling. It was amazing.

Europe Spring 06 May/June

Home a month and off to Europe AGAIN!!!! This was just us headlining and doing some festivals. UK for about 2 weeks Then the Download Festival. Played Glasgow the night before and drove all night to make it to the show at 8:30 am. European and English Festivals are fucking huge!!!! Warped tour times 20!!!! We were so beat when we got to the show with no sleep and found out we were playing around noon. We played a huge tent and were so surprised to see 12,000 people ready to rock. We played the show and had the biggest circle pit that I have ever seen. It was so much fun to see that many kids going nutso in England. It felt like all the touring and working was finally paying off over here as well. We were never able to do that before and now that we were able it just felt good to see the fruits of all your labor ( 3rd time to UK in 6 months) We continued in UK for a couple of days then headed to Europe. Lots of club shows and end it with 2 festivals in Germany (Southside and Hurricane) When we got to the first show in Germany we realized how huge it was gonna be. Big stage just like Japan and Download. But, When we were about to play the stage looked empty and I was getting nervous about playing such a big stage for nobody. I went backstage to warm up and barf.(bad catering) When I came back out to play I was amazed to see about 15,000 kids ready to bring it. And, man did they bring it. So many kids going so fucking nuts. I knew there was a reason I loved Germany!!! After the show we sat backstage and just got drunk and bathed in the warm glow of being so fucking happy and feeling so lucky to have played shows like this. And just drunk!! HA!!!! I left that tour feeling the same way I had about Japan!! AWESOME TRIP!!

Warped 06 USA July

Once again only home for 6 days and off to another trip!!! I have to be honest, I wasn’t really that stoked about doing warped. It’s a hard, hot, grueling trip across America with NOWHERE to shit!! HA!!!!!!!! The bus picked us up and we headed off to do the warped tour. As I said before I wasn’t so excited about this trip. I was beat to shit from all the traveling and touring and my wife was very pregnant. Once I got there and started doing shows I was amazed at how well the tour was going. I was thinking we were too different for the warped tour with all the new music out today and us sounding nothing like it but, I was wrong. I think it actually helped us. We had mostly bigger crowds than what we had in 98,99 when we were on the radio and doing warped. They were not all great but 99% were. It was one of the best tours I have ever gone on. Only advice I have for anybody going to do warped is, BUY A BIKE. It was so much fun to ride my little bmx wal-mart bike all over the place all day and just meet a shitload of people who love what you love. It was amazing and I hope I have another opportunity to do it again.

Sidenote: for the first part of the tour we had a shitty bus that kept breaking down everyday in the hot summer heat. First day of tour my prego wife came with us to Phoenix and it was 112 degrees then generator went out and there was my 8 month prego wife melting. It scared the shit out of me. Felt like I should have been taking beter care of her and my little Bee!! And the bus had broken airbags so it felt like we were driving on dirt roads all the time. It was the only time I have been on tour and hit the top of my bunk while we were driving because it was so bumpy….FUCK that bus!!!!! We switched halfway thru the trip to a much nicer comfy bus. YEAHH!!!!!! I feel for those kids who do warped in a van. They are soldiers. That shit is HARD!!!!!!!!

Japan zh tour? Summer sonic August 06

24 days in Japan!! WOW!!! We landed and started doing shows and press right off the bat. Everyday was a show and everyday was a plane ride or a train ride. And when we were not on a plane, stage, or train we were doing interviews or drinking. The shows were huge club shows. I cant believe we were doing so many big shows on our own. It was so BIG!!! It was fun but, probably one of the hardest trips I have ever done because of the amount of work and travel involved. The minute we step off a plane we are handed a schedule. A very thick schedule and that’s our bible for the next 3 weeks. We eat, sleep, drink, work and play by that schedule. Not complaining though. For one, its fun to do the kinda work we do and two, if it wasn’t for the hard work we would not have the good fortune we have in japan. The club shows were amazing. Way bigger than anything I had ever expected. But, the real fun was the Summer Sonic shows. The first day was Tokyo. Chiba marine stadium. I had played in here before but, not for this many people. It was the biggest crowd I have ever played for. Maybe 50,000 people. Right when we started a monsoon came through and we played in the pouring rain and lightning and thunder. I could actually hear the thunder rumbling above the music. It gave me a kind of surreal memory I will never forget. I remember just looking out into the pouring rain at this stadium full of people just going totally fucking crazy. Its kinda funny when your having a moment like this with all this sensory stuff going off in your head and all of a sudden you kind of slow down to slow motion and get kind of lost in the moment. It was FUCKING INCREDIBLE!!! Osaka Was just as great only way fucking hotter. It was also fun to watch TBS and Metallica fucking rock. There is a reason Metallica is so big and I saw why that night in Osaka!!!! They were fucking great!!!

On the train later the next day my little girl Lucy was born while I was so far away. It was very confusing to be so happy about her being born but being so sad that I wasn’t there for my 2 girls. Not to mention the feelings of just beating the shit out of those shows! So much happening and so much to deal with. All good things but, just so hard to grasp from so far from home. The night Lucy was born I got drunk in the rock rock bar with Metallica and passed out wishing I was home with my wife. After that we did some more club shows and press and headed back home where I got to meet my little Lucy and I have to say spend the very best moment of my life.

Europe Fall 06 /October

I got to come home for a month to be with my family and it was a new amazing time for me. After that I had to head back to Europe AGAIN!!! WOW!!! 4th time in a year. His was the same deal, 2 weeks in the UK and 3 weeks in Europe. The UK shows were the best club shows we had ever had. I was very happy with most all of the shows selling out. I didn’t care that we were in that damn green van again. I must admit I was starting to feel the tiring effects of all the touring we have been doing but, having such great shows makes it a lot easier. After the UK we headed to Europe and it was more of the same thing. Big shows for us with lots of sweaty kids going nuts. I really enjoyed going to some new countries this time as well. Croatia was amazing with lots of nice people. The tour was a fucking great time!!!!
